Newtown and District Automobile Club's brand new event for 2017 see's the return of the Holrus, to be run as a Targa Rally in the Newtown area.
Historically the event was run as a road rally for many years.
Targa Rallies are a new category introduced by the MSA in 2013.
The event involves driving tests held entirely on private land with either a transport or regularity section linking them up via the public highway.
The tests are timed to an average of 30mph and can be held on any type of surface using either stately home driveways, forest or farm tracks, car parks or fields.
The cars taking part can be a completely standard road car or for the more competitive crews they can use a road rally car.
A Targa Rally consists of short driving tests, similar to what you would find at an Autotest event, and is open to beginners. Tests are run on private lanes or yards, with mixture of tarmac, concrete, gravel, mud and grass. There could be any number of tests set during the day. Cars will usually start at one minute intervals and they must stop astride the finish line (same finish procedure as Autotests).
This event will be open to NADAC club members only, so whether you are new to motorsport or belong to another club, come along and join our Club to have a great inexpensive days sport.
You’ll find our membership form on our contacts page. Once you have joined, you will receive text messages letting you know when entries are open.
Entries will be available from Sunday 4th June 2017 at 4.00 pm.
Please ensure that you have read the Supplementary Regulations thoroughly and have noted the terms of entry. Entries will only be received via the online entry system and will not be confirmed until payment has been received in full.
The Club has previously run a successful Targa Rally in 2014 solely in aid of raising funds to provide a young lad with some wheels - Wheels 4 Robbie Targa Rally... it was a fantastic event at Throckmorton which raised a huge amount of money for Robbie. A small selection of photos of club members in action are shown below.
